Poems

Bayern, Deutschland

Tiles red like cinnamon dust a sea of roofs

Churches rise higher than all — Protestant and Catholic join hand-in-hand within

Conservatives spout one day and Muslim immigrants sing the next as Polizei smile and wave

Markets dance to the street musicians’ sounding their sweet songs

The tone of life is set to that of laughter and joy

Restoration not devastation is given to buildings

Within one’s grasp is an abundance of history at every turn and every building

Cheery chirps from bikes reflect that of the Straße-Bahn bells that resonate throughout the city streets

U-Bahns unforgiving as they close their doors on time with or without you on board

Speedy Schnell-Bahns extend and connect everyone city-to-city state-to-state

Hills as green as the energy they uphold— solar and wind power their ideals

Public water fountains by day and beer gardens by night

Youth hostels with strangers and workers both kind and not

Trim men dressed dapper and smelling sweet — as flirtatious and fine as the food

O’ Germany, my heart now belongs to thee
